HOW TO MAKE RHUBARB PIE

Spring or summer, or winter, or fall – is a good time to enjoy some mouthwatering rhubarb pie. It’s healthy, it’s delicious, and it’s an excellent snack for the entire family. What’s more, you can always prepare your own homemade rhubarb pie by simply following this recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

4 cups of rhubarb, chopped
2 cups of sugar
3 cups of flour
4 tsp. of baking powder
1 tsp. of salt
1/2 cup of shortening
About 1 cup of milk
3 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. of mace

TOOLS:

Bowl
Rolling pin
9-inch pie plate
Pastry brush
Knife
Oven

STEPS:

1. Prepare the crust first by tossing the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl.

2. Add milk and shortening into the mixture to form a dough.

3. Using a rolling pin, knead the dough for a short time on a floured surface to make a smooth ball.

4. Roll out the dough into a circle about 14 inches in diameter.

5. Using the rolling pin to carry the dough, unroll the dough onto the pie plate. Carefully guide the pastry into the pie plate. Make sure you don’t stretch it.

6. Trim off the pastry so that just about 1/2 inch is left beyond the pie plate’s edges.

7. Prepare the filling by washing the chopped rhubarb.

8. Mix the rhubarb with mace and sugar, then place the mixture into the crust. Put dots of softened butter over the mixture.

9. Fold just the edges of the crust over the filling. Do not cover the center. Roll out Brush some milk onto the crust and sprinkle sugar over the pie.

10. Bake your pie for about 50 minutes at 400°F. You’ll know it’s done when the fruit has softened and the crust takes on a golden brown color. You may cover the crust with foil to prevent it from browning too quickly.

So there you have it – your own homemade rhubarb pie. You can serve this warm, cold, or à la mode!
